Between the 10th and 14th  April 2013, Senior/National Squad swimmer Amy (age 13) competed in the Scottish National Age Group Championships at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.

She successfully qualified for five events, the 100 fly, 200 fly, 100 free, 200IM and 100 back.

She showed her solid form all week where she swam personal bests in in all the events, winning her heat in the 100 free in a time of 104.83 (L/C), narrowly missing out on the final by 0.7sec.

In her favorite event the 100m Fly Amy came second in her heat in a time of 1:09.94 (PB L/C.) This secured her a place in the final in the company of  the Scottish London 2012 Olympic competitor Hannah Miley.

Amy finished 6th overall in the final, with a long course PB of 109.43, an excellent swim which was less than half a second outside the Long course British National qualifying time.

Spurred on by her results in Edinburgh Amy travelled to the Mid Bed 2013 Open Meet held at the Saxon Pool in Biggleswade on Sunday 12th May, her objective there to swim a National Qualifying Time in the 100 fly.

All her hard work and training paid dividends when she swam home to a a gold medal  in a time of  1.06.94 once again breaking her own All time Club Record for the 3rd time in as many months.

More importantly though she swam more than half a second inside the national Qualifying Time and booked a trip to join  Ellie Mitchell at  the British National Age Group Championships at the International Sports Centre in Sheffield in July.

Well done and Good luck in Sheffield !

British Swimming and ASA statement on Carbon Pro swimsuits

Following concern over the use of Carbon Pro swimsuits in major competitions, British Swimming and the ASA have released this joint statement.

British Swimming and the ASA advise officials that FINA bylaw BL 8.1 only applies to Olympic Games and FINA events.

A suit check will only be made if a World or European record is being claimed.

There is no requirement for officials to check that costumes are on the approved FINA list.

Bylaws BL 8.2 and BL 8.3 cover our requirement for design and material.

A suit check will only be made if a World or European record is being claimed.

More Congratulations !

At the end of last  year Club Coaches Sally Winter , Stuart Clarke Cyd Newman and Barry Chandler , supported by the Club signed up the Recognition of Prior Learning Scheme being run by the ASA.

It was recognised by the ASA that there a many coaches who were coaching and had been doing so for many years without having taken and completed a coaching qualification. It also recognised that in such cases the coach was more than qualified to do the job.

The scheme allows for the coach to submit their portfolio to the ASA and thereafter  be assessed by an assessor against the core coaching elements of UKCC Level 1 and 2 coaching courses.

I am pleased to say that Sally Stuart Cyd and Barry have all successfully completed the RPL and have been awarded their Level 2 Qualifications

Well done everyone !
