Geoff Short - Scottish National Champion

Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club’s head coach Kristof Michaliszyn and five swimmers made a hugely successful trip to Glasgow last week to compete in the British Gas Scottish National Championships gaining Championships, regional records, club records and personal best times. It was the first time swimmers from the club had made the trip north for this competition and it was well worthwhile.

The most notable swim was from Geoff Short who won the National title in the 50 metre butterfly in a new East Region and club open record time of 24:65 seconds.

Geoff also competed in the 100m butterfly, where he achieved a new club open record time of 57:14 seconds, the 50m freestyle finishing in 24:92 seconds and the 50m backstroke where he finished in 28:69 seconds. Richard Molloy competed in the 50m (28:06 seconds), 100m (1.00:84 seconds) and 200m (2.14:68 seconds) backstroke events. Stuart Clarke competed in the 100m (55:44 seconds) and the 200m freestyle (2.00:54 seconds), this was a new open club record time.

Also swimming were two junior competitors, Alex Snowden and Jake Lloyd, swimming in the 15 and under youth category. Alex swam in the 100m breast stroke (1.13:79 seconds) a new personal best and bettering his own club record, and the 100m (56:16 seconds), coming 11th and just missing the final, and 200m (2.04:88 seconds) freestyle. Jake swam in the 200m freestyle (2.07:46 seconds) and the 100m (1.03:78 seconds) and 200m (2.26:91 seconds) butterfly. All 3 of Jake’s times were personal bests and the 200m butterfly was a new club open record.
